The Dark Knight.
Oh my god. I saw The Dark Knight today. It really is the greatest comic book film of all time. It's deliciously dark and very very serious. I spent the whole time with my heart racing waiting for the next explosion. Heath Ledger is amazing and quite possibly Oscar nominatable. The whole thing is tinged with sadness though because every frame containing the late Ledger is so brilliant and full of agressive energy it's very hard to believe that this is his penultimate film. The rest of the cast is strong and the messages to film carries are deep and powerful.
The only blot in an otherwise clean copybook is the acting of Maggie Gylenhaal. She's no Katie Holmes (and that seems like the most damning statement I could ever make)
Go see it. I'm going to the Imax to watch it again. It really is that good.
